When author named Robert Bloch learned about Gein’s story and how he had a mother-complex, he used it as an inspiration for his character, Norman Bates in his novel, Psycho, which became a best-seller and grabbed director Alfred Hitchcock’s attention who later produced his novel as a film (Owepar). Slasher films were first introduced in the 1960’s with Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. The movie begins by introducing a seemingly trustworthy character, Marion Crane, who is having a secret affair with a man named Sam Loomis, whom she cannot marry due to alimony issues from his previous marriage. Being fed up because she cannot begin a life with the man that she loves, she decides to do something about it. Once being given $40,000 in cash to deposit to a local bank for her employer, the trustworthy character trait that she beholds vanishes as she chooses to run away with the money and leave town. She comes across several obstacles on her way – she runs into h er employer, has a cop follow her, is interrogated by a salesman as she turns in her car for a new one, and is hit with heavy rain as she is driving. Due to the rain, Marion makes a short stop at the Bates Motel, which is where she meets Norman Bates, the owner of the motel. Norman is a psycho path with duel personality and has a mother-complex. He is known in the town for killing his mother and her boyfriend due to jealousy.
